Bio
Back in 2006, Moossa strutted on the scene ready to ride the wave of momentum that followed the release of their second collective CD, "Step Right Up". The ambitious 15 (16 track?) track work really defined what this Richmond VA based quartet was all about: focused variety. Earthy roots numbers entwined with scorching rock, funk, reggae and heart wrenching ballads that feel like they echoed down from the ancient hills that stretch across their home state and reach as far north at New York and Canada and wander down into the deep, warm heart of Dixie. The roots of those mountains run deep in their music, drawing from so many genres that they create something transcendant. Moossa is ecclectic for sure - coherent, edgy and yes – cool.
2007 has brought a few changes. We’ve all gotten a little bit older, but our love of the music keeps us young and vibrant. Some have moved on to grow families and old friends have joined the gang to add their voices and talent to the Moossa mix. This fall, Moossa heads back into the studio to produce a labor of love that’s been a long time coming. The tentatively titled “Route 17” is taking shape to be a finely tuned masterpiece full of heart, soul and rock n’ roll.
With 6 years and over 600 shows under their collective belts the band sounds relaxed and poised, driving forward from a solid base with experimental flair that is recognizable even on edgier tunes like “It Isn’t Me” and “Hard Times”. Moossa has been blessed to enjoy radio play on Indie, College and AAA stations as well as a few select TV appearances such as PBS’ nationally syndicated “THE MUSIC SEEN”. Moossa has shared the stage with the likes of the Wailers, Drive By Truckers, Victor Wooten, and Soul Live amongst many others. We look forward to performing at Floyd Fest next year and hope to add a few more festivals to the schedule, as well. As always, you can find us here, at Moossa.com, or on Myspace where we try to share as much of the live shows as we can. Until we meet again, friends, stay tuned for the new album, and we’ll see you out there. Don’t forget to bring your dancing shoes!
