Back in 2000, when Moossa was just beginning to form up, Nancy was moving back to Virginia from Washington. “What are you doing out there that you can’t do here?” a friend had asked her. “Nothing,” was Nancy’s reply. But, in fact, there was one thing Nancy would do in Richmond that she had never done before in Seattle or anywhere else. In 2001, Nancy had her first professional recording experience at Sound of Music for Moossa’s first album, “Last Night” She was introduced to John Moossa through Jason Campbell and sang “Samuel Wakes Up” for the first time, and the rest, as they say, is history.
Between 2000 and 2006, Nancy would occasionally make a guest appearance at the Moossa shows in town or step into the studio to lend her unique vocals to a tune or two, but her calendar was filled with performances with Theatre IV, Yellow House Theatre singing with BooB, Glass-Eyed Sugar-Daddy and Gray-V, as well as belting it out solo for a while. She cut her live performance teeth opening for bands like The 2 Skinnee J’s, Modern Groove Syndicate and even Moossa once or twice. Finally, in the summer of 2006, the planets aligned, yin balanced yang, the timing was right and Nancy was asked to join the Moossa family full-time.
From then on it’s been one great show after another. “I love performing live, and I especially love performing with Moossa. There’s an energy and a joy in the music we create and play that is so….magical, electric, alive, satisfying, joyful…all of it. I know the audience can feel it, too.” Nancy is looking forward to continuing performances in and around Richmond with Moossa and getting back to the studio to record some new music.
“I’m also trying to perfect Squirrel-B-Q. It’s gonna be terrific!”
